Whether you have mobility issues or are planning for the future, a Home Elevator may be a solution worth considering. There are three different types or classifications of elevators:

  1. Hoist-way Elevators
  2. Pneumatic Vacuum (PVE) Elevators
  3. Through Floor Lift Elevators

Hoist-way Home Elevators

This is the traditional classification of elevators that comes to mind for most people when they think about an elevator. This type of elevator requires a shaft & has a drive system to lower & raise a traditional cab. The drive system can be roped hydraulic, traction (counterweight), or winding drum. This type of elevator is a great option if building a new home or adding on an addition or substantial renovation to an existing home.

Advantages of Hoist-way Home Elevators:

A small residential elevator with a metal gate is located inside a room, with the door open to show the interior. The floor is wood-paneled.

Pneumatic Home or Vacuum Elevators

Vacuum home elevators are an innovative and space-saving solution to move people and goods vertically in a home. Vacuum technology uses higher & lower pressure within the cylinder. The vertical cylinder has a fully enclosed cab that moves up & down through air suction & gravity. This is an excellent option for existing homes.

Advantages of Vacuum Home Elevators

A modern glass elevator with a cylindrical shape is situated between ornate metal railings and centered within a room with beige walls and recessed lighting.

Through Floor Lift Elevators

This type of elevator is a great solution if you have limited space and are on a smaller budget. A cab moves vertically on a guide rail system through a cut-out in the floor for up to two floors. There are sensors on the cab that can detect if there is an obstruction above or below the cab.
