Wheelchair Access at Coachella 2014: Everything You Need to Know

Outkast! Muse! Arcade Fire, oh my! Coachella 2014 is shaping up to be one of the best years yet, and wheelchair users can rest assured that this popular summer music festival has several resources in place to make sure everyone has a blast. Some policies have changed, but we have the latest information.

Access Service Center
The Access Service Center, located in the venue lobby, is your one-stop destination for all things accessibility. Here you’ll find staff who can help with assistive listening receivers, headsets, alternative format materials, and even wheelchair battery recharging. When in doubt, head for the Access Service Center.

Getting There
Coachella’s address: 81-800 Avenue 51, Indio, CA 92201 Where are you coming from? Use one of these cities as a reference:

  • San Francisco: Take 5 South or 101 South to 10 East Exit at Jefferson St. or Monroe St. Travel South.
  • San Diego: Take 15 North to 215 North, and then 60 East to 10 East Exit at Jefferson St. or Monroe St. Travel South.
  • Los Angeles: 10 East Exit at Jefferson St. or Monroe St. Travel South
  • Las Vegas: Take 15 South to 10 East Exit at Jefferson St. or Monroe St. Travel South.

Getting Around
You can’t really put a price on arriving at Coachella—from the energy in the air to everyone’s anticipation around you, it’s a mesmerizing atmosphere. If you need a way to carry your wheelchair, scooter, or power chair in your car, whether it’s to the festival or to and from camping, consider renting an auto lift for this grand occasion. ATMs
Accessible ATM’s are located throughout the venue and are marked on your Coachella map.

Concession Stands
Wheelchair-accessible concession stands and bars are located throughout the venue. If you need assistance at any of the food service areas, notify the nearest staff member.

First Aid
Several First Aid stations are located throughout the venue and are marked on your Coachella map.

Interpreting Services
Language interpreters are located to the right side of each stage and in the Access Service Center. Requests for an interpreter need to be made at least two weeks prior to the festival. To request an interpreter, send an email to [email protected].

Parking
*New Information* ADA parking has moved since previous years. From the 10 freeway or Hwy 111, travel South on Monroe Street to the parking lot labeled “ADA PARKING ONLY,” located half a block south on Avenue 51 on the west side in LOT 11. Law enforcement will verify each vehicle’s ADA placard or license plate and ensure it corresponds with current DMV registrations and the identification of the ADA patron inside of the vehicle. All patrons inside of the vehicle must be wearing their festival wristbands.

Restrooms
All Coachella restrooms are accessible. Each restroom is marked on your Coachella map.

Service Animals
Service animals are welcome at Coachella. Other pets are not. To ensure that your service animal is let into the venue, please email [email protected] and someone will walk you through the approval process.

Wheelchair and Companion Seating
For wheelchair seating throughout Coachella, visit the Access Service Center for a pass. Wheelchair-designated seating is located throughout the festival and is marked on your Coachella map.
