Local Statutes and Regulations
Here in the DC area or the “DMV”, as it is called, there are different statutes that must be followed when it comes to installing stair lifts and ramps:
- In Virginia and Washington DC one must hold a contractor license to install wheelchair ramps. To install chair lifts and platform lifts, you must have an elevator license or certified accessibility mechanic’s license.
- In Maryland you are able to install handicapped lifts / chair lifts and ramps with a MHIC ( Maryland Home Improvement contractor license)

Born in Washington, DC and raised in Alexandria, VA, Matt Riordan knows the DC Metro. He and his wife Christina have two children in Leesburg, VA. He is a loyal Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan and a lifetime fan of the Georgetown Hoyas. In his spare time, Matt enjoys taking his family to the Sweetwater Tavern and visiting the Redskins Stadium.
Our mobility and accessibility expert, Mike Riordan is also a lifelong resident of the DC Metro area, born in DC and raised in Alexandria with his brother Matt. He and his wife Jessica have one son. Mike is an avid Texas Tech football fan.

MS support groups work to raise funding, and to improve quality of life for those who are affected by Multiple Sclerosis. The ultimate goal: to have a world free of MS.
Most people are diagnosed with MS between the ages of 20-50, with women more commonly diagnosed than men. With MS, the myelin coating around the nerve fibers in the central nervous system are damaged, which disrupts the transmission of nerve impulses to and from the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms can vary from person to person, and can include fatigue, numbness and tingling, weakness, difficulty walking, muscle spasms, vision problems, to name a few.
