Curved Stairlift Features & Additional Options

Rail Overruns

Rail overruns extend the stairlift’s railing beyond the staircase. At the top of the staircase, curved rail overruns extend a few feet away from the staircase’s top landing, and may even wrap around a nearby corner to enable the user to safely transfer in and out of the stairlift’s seat in a safe area away from the staircase. At the bottom of the staircase, curved rail overruns wrap the unit’s bottom, railing around a corner and out of the path of hallway traffic.

During your free consultation, 101 Mobility’s Mobility Consultant will discuss additional rail options with you to determine the best stairlift pathway to enhance the safety of your home and best suit your needs.

Curved Stairlift Operations

Most stairlifts are controlled by a button or switch placed in the unit’s arm rest. This controller may be placed on either arm rest – let our installers know which side you prefer to ensure easy operation. To operate your stairlift, simply press the button or rocker switch on the unit’s arm rest.

101 Mobility’s stairlifts also come with a standard call/send switch, which is mounted on the wall near the bottom of the staircase. An additional switch may be added at the top of the staircase. This switch enables multi-user households to access the unit when necessary, and also provides a means to send the stairlift’s chair to a different position on the staircase and out of the way when not in use.

Swivel Seats

Stairlift seats can swivel to enable safer transitions in and out of the stairlift’s seat. Depending on the user’s abilities, you may prefer to add a power swivel seat feature, which will automatically turn the seat rather than requiring the user to do so manually. Our expert Mobility Consultants will speak with you during your free home consultation to determine which seat style is best for your needs.

Design Options for Curved Stair Lifts

101 Mobility offers custom curved indoor stairlifts from the industry’s most trusted manufacturers. Each make and model has a different aesthetic, and you may find that you prefer the look and feel of one type over another.

Depending on the make and model, your stair lift may be available with different seat color and fabric options, as well as rail color options. Our Mobility Consultants will address any concerns about stairlift aesthetics to find the best option to enhance your home’s decor.

Frequently Asked Questions About Curved Stairlifts

How Long Does It Take To Install a Curved Stairlift?

Installing a curved stairlift typically requires more time than a straight stairlift due to its increased complexity. While we generally allocate a full day for a standard home stairlift installation, curved stairlifts can take a couple of days to set up properly. This extended timeframe is necessary, because the curves must be precisely positioned, and there are additional parts involved. Ensuring accuracy in fitting the rail and wiring it to the electrics is crucial for the smooth operation and safety of the stairlift. Therefore, homeowners should expect a longer installation period for curved stairlifts, reflecting the thorough  work required to achieve a perfect fit.

Are Curved Stairlifts Compatible With All Types of Staircases?

Curved stairlifts are designed to accommodate a wide variety of staircase configurations, including those with multiple landings, spirals, or unique shapes. Each curved stairlift is custom-made to match the specific dimensions and curves of your staircase, ensuring a perfect fit. This level of customization allows curved stairlifts to be installed in almost any home, regardless of the staircase's complexity, providing a safe and efficient solution for navigating challenging staircases.

What Safety Features Do Curved Stairlifts Have?

Curved stairlifts come equipped with a range of safety features to ensure a secure and reliable experience for users. Key safety features include seat belts to keep users securely in place, swivel seats that allow for easy and safe dismounting, and obstruction sensors that automatically stop the lift if an object is detected on the stairs. Additionally, curved stairlifts are fitted with battery backup systems to maintain operation during power outages. These features collectively provide peace of mind and enhanced safety for those relying on stairlifts for mobility.
