A stair lift is a device that is attached to a staircase to transport an individual up and down the stairs. To use a stair lift, one must be able to safely transfer in and out of the stair lift’s seat and remain in the upright position through the duration of the ride. All stair lifts are equipped with seat belts to assist with balance and safety.
101 Mobility offers a variety of straight rail stair lifts from the industry’s leading manufacturers, each with a range of additional features and add-on options. We offer free in-home stair lift consultations, where on of our expert Mobility Consultants will help you determine which model is best suited for your specific needs.
Contrary to popular belief, stair lifts are mounted directly into the stair treads, rather than into the wall beside the staircase. This means that regardless of whether you have an open staircase or railings on both sides, your staircase is still compatible with a stair lift unit.
There are different types of stair lifts to suit the wide range of staircases. Straight indoor stair lifts are the most common type of stair lifts. They are meant for use on any indoor staircase without any turns, curves, or landings.
Stair lifts can be modified to fit nearly any staircase length. Professional installers may need to add additional rail sections or trim existing rail sections to ensure a proper fit with your staircase.
Stair lifts are available in a range of widths depending on the user’s needs. Most stair lifts require only about 29″ of space, which can be easily accommodated by modern staircases.
When not in use, the seats, arm rests, and foot rests fold flat against the wall to maximize the usable staircase space.
Indoor stair lifts from 101 Mobility are battery-powered, but require access to a basic 110v outlet in order to recharge the unit’s battery. In the event of a power outage, a fully-charged stair lift will continue to run for a period of time ranging from hours to days until the stored charge is exhausted. The exact period of time varies depending on make, model, age, and frequency of use.
In order to allow the user to safely access the stair lift’s chair at the bottom of the staircase, the unit’s railing must extend out past the bottom step. Depending on your home’s layout, this piece of railing may interfere with traffic in a hallway or a door at the bottom of the staircase. To address this potential hazard, all straight stair lifts offered have a folding-rail add-on option.
There are a variety of different folding rail styles, but each serves the same purpose. Folding rails may be manual or automatic – 101 Mobility’s expert Mobility Consultants will assist you in selecting the best rail style to maximize safety and utility of your stair lift.
When your stair lift is installed, our Mobility Specialists will discuss operation methods with you to determine where to place the controller. To operate your stair lift, simply press the button or rocker switch on the unit’s arm rest.
101 Mobility’s stair lifts also come standard with a call/send switch, which is mounted on the wall near the bottom of the staircase. An additional switch may be added at the top of the staircase. This switch enables multi-user households to access the unit when necessary, and also provides a means to send the stair lift’s chair to a different position on the staircase and out of the way when not in use.
Stair lift seats can swivel to enable safer transitions at the top of the staircase. Depending on the user’s abilities, you may prefer to add a power swivel seat feature, which will automatically turn the seat rather than requiring the user to do so manually. Our expert Mobility Consultants will speak with you during your free home consultation to determine which seat style is best for your needs.
101 Mobility offers straight indoor stair lifts from a variety of top-quality manufacturers. Each make and model has a different aesthetic, and you may find that you prefer the look and feel of one type.
Furthermore, indoor stair lifts have different customization options. Depending on the make and model, your stair lift may be available with different seat color and fabric options as well as rail color options. Our Mobility Consultants will address any concerns about stair lift aesthetics to find the best option to enhance your home’s decor.
